DISCLAIMER: I know shit about shit when it comes to 18th century paintings, paintings and art in general. Nevertheless...
I am completely taken by the way Jean-Honoré Fragonard captures fabric textures in his painting The Stolen Kiss (1787-89, Oil on canvas, 45 x 55 cm, The Hermitage, St. Petersburg.)
I find it funny that there always seems to be something a bit fuzzy about the faces in paintings of this period, but when it comes to the fabric you feel you can just reach out and touch it.
