Oscars: Whoa Kelly!

Kelly, you flippin' babe. If you ask, I might leave Natalie for you. But don't be surprised if you wake up one morning to find I've done a runner and taken your beautiful hair with me.
p.s. Are you hungry?

Oscars: the meh.

Natalie Portman wore a pretty mini to the Vanity Fair after-party:

But man-oh-man she did grey tulle sooo much better in Lanvin at the 2003 Oscars:

It's ok, Nat. I'll still marry you.

Oscars: the best and the best.

Zoe Kravitz's red velvet and touch-pink combination was one of my favourite gowns of the night. The style of the dress was elegant while the colours remained youthful. Perfect.

Cameron hit it out of the park in Oscar de la Renta. Beautiful, Old Hollywood, blah blah blah. She looks like Oscar Barbie and the California babe she is.

I imagine Zoe Saldana's choice will be divisive. Whatever. I think the Givenchy gown is a delicious confection and the perfect end to what has been one of the best set of award-season appearances ever. It's the icing on the cake. The cherry on the knickerbocker glory. The nutell... shall I stop? I think I shall.

A friend suggested that Rachel McAdams in Elie Saab Couture looked like 'a beautiful mountain' and I have to agree. She finally seems to be coming into her own on the red carpet.

I'm including Sam Worthington's girlfriend, Natalie Mark, because I have a feeling she might be wearing J'aton Couture and it would make me really happy to see an Australian design at the Oscars.

I had to include Robert Downey Jnr's absolute betty of a wife, Susan. I don't know who the designer is but I adore the colours and unusual horizontal stripes.

I know what you mean, man.

Wow, so are political t-shirts back? Are we here again?

No.

Does Christmas smell like oranges to you?

This dress from Rochas' F/W RTW collection is so good to me right now.
Partly because I have been watching Robert Altman's Nashville and have fallen a bit in love with Barbara Jean and the whole Gunne Sax vibe:

I just love me a good sleeve flounce.

drape me

Ok, I'm not the biggest Dolce & Gabbana fan but...

I NEED to see these on the red carpet. Full length. Out of control.
The green in particular is beyond gorgeous.

shiny shiny

Glamour magazine has got its sparkle on for the 'Most Glam' April issue:

The tri-cover edition immediately made me think of the Jewel and Metal pas de trois in Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty:

In the ballet Gold, Sapphire and Diamond perform together at Princess Aurora's wedding.

I don't care about your stoopid body.

Who'd want to go to heaven when hell tastes like this? Neckface for ever ever ever ever.

skinny times

It was with a resounding 'woot woot' that I learned Christian Lacroix is set for a comeback, with a few licensing deals in the works to help with the green side of things. Fingers crossed this means he will be presenting Couture shows again soon.
As someone outside of the fashion industry it was with dismay but not surprise that I first heard Lacroix was in deep financial difficulties. Given that even fashion houses as well-established as Chanel and Dior rely on perfume and accessory sales to remain afloat, it seemed amazing that a relatively young label like Lacroix's survived as long as it did. Did the dude even make an It-bag?
And here's his perfume:

I've never heard of it either.

Here are some pieces from his Spring 2007 Couture collection, which remains one of my all-time favourites:

Seriously, if 'selling out' is what is need for a designer to keep producing diamonds like these, I'd be ok with Christian listing his soul on Ebay.

pecking about

There is something very cute about this vintage dress being sold at Bowerbird.
I think I shall take it as my wife.

Beautiful waistline and no doubt very flattering. I am still so into peplums, though I think their moment might be coming to an end.
Sad story: Bowerbird used to live around the corner from me. Now she don't.

worth waking up in a bathtub full of ice

At the moment I think I would sell one of my kidneys for a pair of leather pants.

Which is just as well, really, because I could stand to lose some of the extra bulk and I don't think these babies would have too much give.
The pair pictured above are Blank Denim but it looks like they have sold out of all small sizes. Probs should have checked that before I sold the old kidney.

Work it out.

So I figure I'm allowed, like, one rhythmic gymnastics post per year (max) unless I want this blog to become completely irrelevant. Here's 2010's:

This was the March 2008 issue of Wallpaper and I still remember shrieking upon first laying eyes on it in the newsagents. So freakin' rad.

room with a veux

This is a sweet idea. Veux is a website that only stocks clothes made by emerging Australian designers.
Ok, full disclosure, I think a lot of the stuff kinda miss the mark - though this might be due in part to the dodgy photos.
Here is one rather cute dress with crocheted details from Katie Jales:

In her 1964 book Elegance, Genevieve Antoine-Dariaux wrote 'The truly chic woman never wears black before noon'. This advice isn't entirely relevant to me as I rarely make it out of bed before 1pm but I take issue with its fuddy-duddy sentiment nonetheless. Jales' dress would look totally bangin' for a brunch date

Hats are for your head.

Generally speaking, I tend not to have the most stunning success when it comes to trend predicting - when will baseball-chic have its moment? Nevertheless, I reckon this (Australian) Winter the wide-brim, slightly floppy felt hat, popular in the 1970s, will be coming in for a kick.
See? If some random girl from Face Hunter is doing it...

And Francoise Dorleac too. This photo is one from a sensational collection on the blog Lovely Bohemia.

And here's one being sold by plumberry vintage on Etsy.

It would look sooo good on light brown or blonde hair.

Not falling, floating.

A selection from a series by the photographer Marc Rogoff.

I have had dreams of flying like this (not too far off the ground) so many times...
I felt like I was smacked in the face by the beauty of these photos.

Etsy seller Jett Vintage is selling the greatest pants ever made:
That is all.

I can feel my life, you know?

Recently I have been perusing the local online store, Alegorie. I have decided it is now time for winter. I'll take these two scarves, thank you.

Alegorie was created, if I am not very much mistaken, by a rather lovely Miss Ghost, who also runs the rather lovely Sea of Ghosts blog.

Before I knew about the equality way/ I wanted to get laid to take my breath away

London Fashion Week has given us some delicious velvet to drool over:
Richard Nicoll

Twenty8Twelve

This little velvet number is being sold by Fab Gabs on Etsy.
The seller's description states it is a 1930s dress but if I had to guess I would say 1940s.
The model looks totally adorable in it and should beg, borrow or steal to keep it for herself.

Filth of the city.

I was walking home from a night out when I got the distinct feeling that something strange was happening to Sydney....
Just kidding. It's only art

Charlotte Blau, who are yau?

I am intrigued by this photo I found on the State Library of Victoria website but the only information I can find on the woman is that she was a designer. The print on the satin is lovely, as is the photo itself - do you reckon the white-out was an old school photoshop technique?
