Here is an ad for Yves Saint Laurent's Elle Shocking perfume, photographed by Terry Richardson:And here is accompanying video:

The ad isn't so much shocking as unbelievably embarrassing - if one were trying to make a spoof segment on the high-fashion industry trying to look bad-ass, it would be difficult to better this campaign.
Here are some more scandalous advertisements (a good many of which were also photographed by Richardson.)
Sisley (Who are to be forgiven for their idiotic ads on account of the fact that any distraction from their bland designs must be seen as a savvy business move):
Dolce & Gabbana (Complete assholes who will not be forgiven this monstrosity of a campaign.)
Gucci (I adore this. Tom Ford is God.)

Just because it's cool, doesn't mean it's right.
Next time you're considering buying something from Urban Outfitters, bear in mind that it's CEO, Richard Hayne is a Grade-A douche. The dude is known to support senators who are against gay marriage, and accordingly pulled this t-shirt from the store's shelves:And despite Hayne being such a full-on right-wing Republican, UO perplexingly still stocks buttloads of Obama stuff. Laaaaame.

Things that used to be cool but aren't any more make me sad.
Upon reading a Vanity Fair article on Esquire magazine in the late 1960s, and being blown away especially by the cover design, I began to wonder why I had never considered reading the publication as it exists today.
Then I realised that it was probably because nowadays they put out bullshit covers like this:
And again:
Guys, it was cool when Angie Dickinson did it:
But have you ever heard of beating a dead horse?
Oh, and they also recreated the sensational Virna Lisi shaving shot (above) using Jessica Simpson, but I'm not letting it anywhere near my blog.
